Planners' comments
 Thank you everyone for turning up and for your comments. Linda and I enjoyed the preparation and planning for the event, though when we first looked at the map we wondered how we were going to fit the courses around the limitations of climb, fences and distance from the car park.
I tried to be a little different, instead of going out to the perimeter of the area for distance, the Green and Blue criss crossed over the central area which I hope had lots of interesting features, views and route choices for you. I tried to do something different with the Yellow and Orange to make it more fun for the little ones, and it was Linda's idea that they would probably enjoy running around the circular earth wall which is part of the Bronze age fort on the summit.
Any good club is all about people giving extra for enhanced and mutual enjoyment of the sport, and so many Southdowners all work behind the scenes to support a novice planner like me. Thank you especially to Julia for carefully looking over my courses and making suggestions, they would not have worked very well at all until I adopted her improvements. Thanks also to Mike Baron for helping me get organised, encouragement, and collecting the cash with Tom (thanks Tom). The kit was all neatly ordered and in working condition thanks as ever to Neil, and it was through his advice on OCAD and published guidance (on the website) which enabled me to draw the criss crosses and control numbers in manageable positions. The Drakes just turned up as ever and sorted out all the electronic results, which adds so much enjoyment for all of us, and removed a big task for me, so a huge thank you to the Drakes. Finally thanks to Mike Gammon for printing the maps and making final improvements.
I really enjoyed visiting the hill and then coming back and fiddling around with OCAD. Organising a SOG is a nice way to enjoy the sport without the pressure of competing. Around the middle of the morning of the event I walked up to the summit with a copy of each course, and it was with great satisfaction I saw all ages of competitors running around the summit, and then looking down into the huge re-entrant on the East side, could see runners going low, middle and high on the long leg.
I am always amazed at the breadth of ability in all sports, the more you do the more you realise how good the good people are. The winner of the Blue course came back to the start and then mopped up the Green in 23 minutes! I still can't work out how that was possible.
Finally thanks to the control collectors: Kenny, Jane, the Carders, and especially Ian Waghorn who had a long walk.
