PLANNERS COMMENTS
 I only plan the courses – not the weather. But if I did it would have been just as it was – almost perfect after such a week of terrible storms. I went to Parham on Saturday morning expecting fallen trees blocking the tracks and debris everywhere. I was pleasantly disappointed. The woods were in great condition - hope most of you saw the lovely wild daffodils - and very fast! (I am always in awe of any orienteer who can travel faster through woods with a compass avoiding brashings, fences, swamps and getting their eyes poked out by low branches, than I can run on the roads!!)
Parham is a comparatively small area but with lots of different blocks of wood – mostly quite runnable – with an irregular path network. This allowed me to put in route choice legs on the ‘longer’ courses. There was a lot of serious discussion before the start about the best route to control 1 on the blue course. Direct or easy option track run??
Thanks for such a great turnout. I know that lots of competitors appreciated my ‘Ricky’s Excuses’ that I posted around the controls. I did try to print them quite large but I understand that some of you were going so fast you still found them hard to read!
Everyone seemed to enjoy their courses and entered into the spirit of the day, of Fun and Competitiveness.
A special Thank You to all of the SO westerners who helped with the event.
It was a day and an event we will all remember for all the right reasons.
For me, personally, it was a pleasure and a privilege to plan Ricky’s memorial SOG, I think he too would have enjoyed the event like we all did.
