Planner's comments
 I hope you all enjoyed the courses today. It was a beautiful morning – lovely for putting controls out, although we did feel like we hadn’t left the place, having finished the organisation of the night event just 12 hours earlier. I had lots of good comments at the finish, thank you. Blackland Farm gets smaller and smaller the more you look at the map – especially when they come up with new activities each time – this time the driving in the Western field. Young Drive were very accommodating and promised to look out for Orienteers if they strayed too near. I planned the courses to avoid the archery and both zip wires although only one of the zip wires was actually in use. This limited the courses a bit but was the only option in the interest of safety and planning ahead.
I tried to plan the course based on providing route choice, although most of the woodland was so clear that if you were confident, the straight line option was usually the best. I was pleased to see that I foxed the green runners at the start and control 14 to 15 on the blue split people up. Course times seemed to be fairly optimum. It looks like we need to keep on the toes of those youngsters – they won every course again!
I’m sure you all enjoyed the hot punch and mince pies – which has now become a Christmas tradition on the last SOG before Christmas. Thanks to Ali, Mike and Jill Weller for providing the hot drinks and numerous people for providing mince pies.
Thank you to the Collins family for saving the day with my last minute plea for help with the car parking and to all others who offered after they did. Thanks to Mike Gammon for printing the maps, Jaquie for sorting out all the computer stuff, John Faller for taking over from Jaquie, Laura for map sales, Jim and Sue for putting the banners up, Les and Bridget for numerous jobs! Thanks also to Ed, Jane, Chris, Claire, Shaun, Vince and Chris for control collecting. Finally thank you to Pete for checking my courses and doing everything else I asked him to do!

P.S. Event planners and organisers would love to see some more new people helping at events, so please think about it. Also if you fancy a go at planning an event just let us know and you can shadow a planner to get used to the idea.
