Although Bryony and Jonathan have helped plan a Park O before this was their first attempt at proper colour coded courses. The division of labour was that Bryony planned Blue and Yellow and Jonathan initially planned Green and Orange. In fact the constraints of the area meant that the Orange course ended up being a joint effort. I generally supervised and supported and of course Neil provided technical back-up.
The general aim in such a small area as Rivers Wood was to keep you all thinking, by mixing up the leg lengths and direction and giving you route choice and of course Bryony’s special loop on the Blue course. It was very satisfying to see the route to number 1 on the Blue and Green causing real indecision as people waited in the start queue and the long legs seem to have produced a variety of routes, it will be interesting to see some of them on route gadget.
I had thought that we would have a good turn out, especially with a good weather forecast and had checked our map numbers against the numbers at the busiest SOGs, however we still ran out on the blue, apologies to those who had to recycle. Over 60 entrants on blue must be close to a record with 150 altogether.
As you will have noticed there was a distinct lack of Jonathan at the event, as he was attending a training weekend is south Wales and Neil was transporting him. So many thanks to Claire Teesdale and Chris and Jane Lambert for helping us and then control collecting, also to Ed Cox and Simon Thraves for collecting.
Finally a big thank you to Simon Greenwood for letting us run at Rivers Wood and to the weather for giving us such a beautiful day for an event.
