Planners Comments
Firstly, many thanks to the small team of helpers, The Hoopers (senior) for registrations and (Junior) for the IT; to the Lines for the meet and greet and the collectors Claire Teesdale and Steve Jarvis for helping me bring in all the controls. All events need helpers and the adage many hands make light work applies so don’t be backward in coming forward. Control collecting for example can take as little as 10 minutes if there are three or four helpers. Now about the courses: The Hawth is a unique area which, although small, gives the planner the opportunity to set challenging courses. For the colour courses although mainly on paths frequent changing direction required correct orientation of the map whilst for the sprint a change in pace between the open and wooded areas was required. Because of the nature of the area, interesting long legs were difficult to include and in the wooded area the worst of the brambles were avoided. Open area legs were carefully planned to avoid the games areas with virtual straight line running an option. I wonder how many sprint competitors on the leg between controls 12 and 13 ran straight through the gate and over the stile rather than running round the hedge. I enjoyed planning the event, I hope you all enjoyed your run.
